Welcome, FGS friends!
Have you heard about our new Cork Club?! Contact us for details! We have a beautiful selection of organic or biodynamic wines. Drink up, without all the pesticides!
Let’s chat winter wellness my friends! I’m going to keep it short and sweet, but I think this is necessary to talk about as we are smack dab in the middle of a season where we all tend to hibernate, which can result in some sad or lonely feelings.
1. FOOD: Eat well, and eat more fat. Many find they crave things that are seasonal during this time. Delve into it! Make a beautiful and creamy pumpkin soup (be it dairy free or not!); start a crock pot of bone broth and pastured meat (if possible!) and a bunch of root veggies and squash. This is the time to continue getting in your dark greens (as always!) But to really honor what your body is craving too!
2. COMMUNITY: This is a big one. Time with friends and family seems *soo* much easier either during the holidays or the sweet summertime. Take intentional time with others, talking about things that you love and uplift you. Resist the urge to complain, and be sad! It’s hard! But you can do it. Do things that you love, and give back. This is an awesome time to volunteer. Shelters and such have loads of help during the holidays, but things taper off a lot during Jan/Feb. Go make a meal with some folks, or visit seniors! Host a community potluck with all your friends! That way, you don’t have much cooking, AND you can stay in your home.
EXERCISE: It can be a lot harder to get your bum moving in winter, but let me tell ya, IT IS A GAME CHANGER for the mood. Those endorphins not only encourage you to eat better, but to continue in something that is great for you and allows you to better serve your community! How awesome. Exercise is the best. Even if you just run up and down your stairs a few times with some weight and your favorite music, SWEATTTT. You’ll feel a million times better.
3. TIDYNESS: Stay clean, my friends. Clean your dishes, and laundry as you go, and save bigger chores for a cleaning day! First, you can use your cleaning day at exercise (see above!!!) and second of all, it make for a whole lot of peace to come back to a tidy space, which in turns makes ya happy! PS, buy yourself some flowers too. Or eucalyptus. YUM.
4. CREATIVITY: I have heard so many people say “I don’t have a creative bone in my body” but their outfits are always on point, or their makeup looks great, or they are great at problem solving. Maybe none of these are you, but I truly believe that each of us can get creative in some form or fashion. Sure, you could try your hand at painting, orrr you could rearrange your furniture! Organize a weird ugly spot in your home! Add a plant and some color to your desk at work! Try a new recipe! There is a whole myriad of things that you can try that have nothing to do with putting a pen to paper.
Try these out and let us know what you think! Please take of yourself and others this winter! We could all use a lil more lovin’.
Best and be well,
