Okay ladies, let’s talk about it – periods. We all know that most of us women have a period every month, but did you know that 70% of women use tampons to manage their period every month?! AND the average woman will use between 11,000 and 16,000 in her lifetime? (https://cora.life/) That’s a pretty staggering statistic, right?
You many be thinking…”Really?? Organic tampons?? When will this madness end?”. Listen, I get it, companies love sticking that USDA certified organic logo on everything, so it’s hard to know if it really means anything at this point. But have you really ever stopped and considered what you are putting in your body (quite literally) when you reach for the closest tampon? Did you know that conventional tampons and pads do have ingredients list but companies are required to disclose them? Ever wondered what makes scented tampons…well, scented? And considering that vaginas are the most absorbent part of your body, you may want to reconsider your tampon of choice.
From the pesticides sprayed on the cotton grown for tampons, to the dioxins that form during the bleaching process, conventional tampons carry many risks that organic tampons do not. Here is a list of chemicals that many conventional tampons can contain:
-Chlorine. Tampons are NOT naturally white like we see them. They go through an extensive bleaching process (ew)…which then turns in to….
-Dioxin: one of the most deadly chemical compounds (holy sh*%t!!!). Though the FDA claims that tampons only contain trace amounts it can still put women at risk considering how many thousands of tampons we use in our lifetime.
-Glyphosate: used in Round Up weed killer. No thanks.
-Polyethylene, or PET: widely used in the production of plastic bags and containers. Hello lead and mercury.
-Polypropylene: pretty sure none of us would knowingly put antifreeze in our vagina.
This list is scary I know. Thankfully, there are MUCH better options and FGS is really proud to have them available to our customers. So, are organic tampons worth it? We definitely think so. Organic feminine products are biodegradable and hypoallergenic! Certified organic tampons are even better because they use premium, and organic cotton that do not contain any of the harmful ingredients listed. Yay!
We firmly believe that all consumers have the right to know what is exactly in the products that are using, especially those that we are putting in our body. You will be able to find organic tampons and pads at FGS, and even silicone menstrual cups!
