Hello, my health lovers!
Here is my hot cacao recipe as promised! Before we delve into that chocolatey goodness I wanted to give you a couple little blurbs about the ingredients I used and why they are so awesome for your body- ESPECIALLY in winter. I drank this when I was pregnant all the time because all of these ingredients are great for long-lasting energy, and assist your hard-working immune system!
Cacao: CHOOSE CACAO NOT COCOA. Cacao fights off free radicals in the body with ANTIOXIDANTS. This is hugely beneficial because we are exposed to more chemicals on a day to day basis than ever before. It also contains high levels of minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. Cacao, because it is heated at such a low temperature for a short time (this separates the fat from the rest of the bean), retains all of these nutrients and more while making whatever other herb/spice/ adaptogen it’s paired with more bioavailable to the body. Now that’s a superfood!
Reishi: Reishi is an adaptogen. This means that it will not react with any other allopathic or naturopathic remedy in your body, and it also delivers a deep nutrient punch. Reishi is amazing for strengthening your immune system, may help fight cancer, and is antifungal/antiviral among other things. This medicinal mushroom is one I would highly recommend having on hand at all times. It can even be used in skincare! Ask about For Goodness Sake’s new makeup highlighters!
Turmeric/Cinnamon: I included both of these anti-inflammatory spices because I think they add a great spicy love to this recipe, as well as being excellent immune boosters. Cinnamon helps your body cut its sugar intake, and turmeric aids in reducing any kind of chronic pain. So, this is a great way to get your Turmeric supplement in if you don’t prefer the taste by itself.
Collagen: Grass-fed collagen is a delicious way to make drinks creamier, without dairy. It also brings the benefit of high quality saturated fat to the table! Who would turn down sustained energy? (Hello, brain health! Hello, gut health!)
Okay, guys! Turn that stove on and let’s do this.
Hot Cacao Elixir:
-4 tbls Grass-fed Collagen (or two travel packets of Great Lakes Collagen*)
-2 tsp Reishi (or 2 packets of Four Sigmatic Mushroom Cacao with Reishi*)
-3 tbls Coconut Sugar (adjust to your preference)
-1/3 cup Cacao (FGS has the best deal on cacao I have seen in this area—take advantage of this amazing price—$10.99 for an entire pound!*)
-pinch or two of Himalayan Salt *
-1/4 tsp Turmeric *
-1/4 tsp Cinnamon *
-2 tbls Grass-fed Butter *
-1 cup Coconut Cream *
-2 cups Almond Milk *
- Heat stove on low, then add the coconut cream and almond milk.
- Once warmed and mixed, add the rest of the ingredients. Whisk.
- THIS STEP MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE: Blend that baddie up!!

-For the coconut cream, just use a can of coconut milk and scrape off the beautiful fatty top layer. This usually equals about a cup. Leave in fridge overnight for best separation.
